Designer Spotlight: Bleu Leman Design

When we came across our Walnut Desk featured in this workspace designed by Bleu Leman Design we were in love! The space really speaks to what we believe about our artifacts - they’re beautiful among a variety of decor styles or as a stand alone piece. Our Desk pairs well with the decor details throughout while still standing out as a long lasting statement piece. This work from home space brings the (much needed) fresh outdoors and stimulating color to the work week. We reached out to Diane Cherix, founder of Bleu Leman Design, to learn more about her design tips and where she draws inspiration from: "Enjoying your workspace can make a big difference in the amount of time you are willing to spend in your office and the quality of the work you will deliver." - Diane Cherix Tell us a little about your process when it comes to designing a workspace for clients: The goal in designing a work space is to pay attention to both practical and esthetic details. I talk to my client about what they absolutely need to have in order to work efficiently. That can determine the size or style of their desk, if they’ll need drawers or additional space for storage, files, certain lighting, etc. Once we’ve established the ‘must haves’, we go to the wish list -’ which is the fun part for me! That’s where we add colors, textures, accessories, to create a space that will be conducive to creativity and productivity. When you work in an office building, your designated space will most likely be dull and uninspiring. When you work from home, you have the opportunity to create a working environment that is both stimulating and supportive, maybe a bright or soothing wall color, meaningful wall art and family photography, a comfy chair, plants, etc. Enjoying your workspace can make a big difference in the amount of time you are willing to spend in your office and the quality of the work you will deliver. Where do you find most of your inspiration and who are your influences? My inspiration comes from the many places I visited during my world travels, but also from books, my latest: ‘The New Mediterranean’ by Gestalten, as well as Instagram and Pinterest. I also love getting ‘triggered’ by beautiful and random pieces of furniture that I see in local design stores, like SOBU in Oakland. I am constantly working with multiple clients and while sourcing products for one client, I often come across inspiration for another client. Influences? I am a big fan of Amber Interiors and strive to achieve that balance of casual yet elegant style that is such an LA (Los Angeles) attribute. Favorite design trends or anything you’re excited to try in 2021? I have always loved anything with a Mediterranean influence. The furniture and textiles are hand made of natural materials, and their beauty lies in their organic nature and their imperfections. So I am thrilled to see that this sense of craftedness has grown into a trend, like Moroccan rugs, rattan furniture, tribal inspired textiles and wall art. I am excited to bring the earthiness and the ‘good life’ vibe of the Mediterranean esthetic to my clients and combine it with the simple and streamlined mid-century design I am fond of.
